SM Entertainment’s A&R staff was currently in controversy.
SBS ‘Unanswered Questions,’ which aired on May 8, dealt with suspicions of SM Entertainment’s A&R team leader and composer.
SM Entertainment announced on May 6 that they imposed a disciplinary action to an A&R (Artists & Repertoire) employee for adopting the song without informing the company of the songwriter that his wife participated in. “Unanswered Questions” dealt with this ‘ghost songwriter’ issue in detail.
‘S’ was named as a songwriter on EXO’s songs upon its debut. There are 15 songs in which ‘S’ participated in co-writing with director Kim, who worked on many songs with SM. ‘S’ is the wife of Mr. Choi (pseudonym), the head of SM Entertainment’s A&R team. An industry official said, “He is one of the leading leaders in the SM A&R.”
‘Unanswered Questions’ released a conversation between director Kim and Mr. Choi. An official who saw the conversation said, “I can see the circumstances of creating a ghost songwriter.”

Dasol Song (pseudonym), who is a co-songwriter in EXO’s song, analyzed the profits of ‘S’ based on copyrights.
Song said, “Even if you write just one song, EXO’s song will come out close to 2 million won to 3 million won with a 2.5% stake. Immediately after announcing that the album sales volume was high, the monthly profit reached about 2.94 million won with a 2.5% stake.”
In fact, ‘S’ took more shares in the songs. There are a total of 15 songs copyrighted under the name of ‘S.’ Considering the profits from album sales, as well as copyrights from music sources, karaoke, YouTube, etc., it was estimated that it had earned a bonus of tens of millions of won to hundreds of millions of won.
