The Kpop music awards ceremony ‘MAMA (Mnet ASIAN MUSIC AWARDS)’ has been confirmed to be held in Korea in December. On September 8th, CJ ENM announced that they would host the ‘2021 MAMA’ at ‘CJ ENM Content Studio’ on December 11th.
MAMA started as Mnet’s ‘Video Music Awards’ in 1999. They continued to evolve along with the growth of the Korean music industry. In fact, MAMA is the first KPOP awards ceremony that took place in Macau in 2010 and the first KPop awards ceremony held simultaneously in three Asian regions in 2017. Also, it is the first KPOP awards ceremony that took place in a dome venue in 2019. They have presented new possibilities for K-pop.
In addition, as a venue for global music festivals, MAMA serves as a bridge between domestic and foreign artists. Also, it serves as a global communication channel for KPOP. It is establishing itself as the best music awards ceremony that attracts worldwide attention at the end of the year.
In fact, MAMA has been the beginning of the global expansion of many Kpop artists and served as an outpost. Accordingly, the most influential domestic artists that year visited the MAMA stage every year. MAMA naturally established itself as an award ceremony that domestic musicians are looking forward to.
The best artists of the time also attend MAMA every year. Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Dua Lipa, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Will.i.am attended MAMA before. Foreign musicians showed the best performances on the stage with Mnet’s modern technology. Through this, the music industry recognized MAMA as the best music awards ceremony to predict global music trends.
MAMA has led the music trend with spectacular performances from the best domestic and foreign artists of the time. They are adding creative stage production every year. So, expectations are already high about what kind of amazing performances the artists will present this year.
CJ ENM’s Music Contents Director Hyunsoo Kim said, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the music industry, as well as society as a whole, is in a stagnant atmosphere. Of course, I hope that KPOP will serve as an opportunity to give hope and courage to those who are weary.”
Meanwhile, MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) will comprehensively consider the covid-19 situation and government guidelines for the rest of the period. They will decide whether to hold a face-to-face event with the health and safety of fans, artists and staff as the top priority.
