COVID-19 hit the music industry once again. One after another, Kpop idols confirmed with COVID-19, and a sense of crisis fell once again in the KPOP industry.
On January 27, another confirmed case occurred in the music industry. Following Eric and Younghoon, Kpop group THE BOYZ member Haknyeon tested positive for COVID-19. The other seven members received a final negative test, and they decided to quarantine in consideration of the isolation period and continued PCR testing and self-kit checks.
Eunbi Kwon, a former member of IZ*ONE, also tested positive for COVID. Eunbi completed the second dose. But, one of the dance crew who practiced with her for the new song tested positive for COVID-19. As Eunbi Kwon was a close contact, she conducted a PCR test, and the result came out positive.
Following Jinhwan, Yunhyeong, Donghyuk, and Junhoe, Kpop group iKon member Chanwoo tested positive for COVID-19. So, 5 out of 6 members are currently in isolation and receiving treatment. In addition, three of the Kpop group TREASURE members tested positive for COVID-19. So, it seems like they will need to adjust their comeback schedule. WINNER member Seunghoon Lee, who belongs to YG Entertainment, tested positive.
Kep1er also found a positive case within the group. Chaehyun Kim and Youngeun Seo tested positive for COVID-19. The two have completed the second dose of the vaccine. Other members tested negative, and no symptoms of suspected infection were shown. Currently, Kepler is suspending the schedule and taking careful actions.
In addition, WEi member Donghan Kim, Hyorin, and Super Junior Eunhyuk tested positive for COVID-19 and entered quarantine and treatment.
While Kpop idols test positive for COVID-19, there are some who are under fire for being reckless. Hwiyoung and Chanhee, members of the Kpop group SF9, are controversial because reports said they were caught violating quarantine rules. On Chanhee’s birthday, they enjoyed nightlife with their acquaintances at a pub in Nonhyeon until dawn. Hwiyoung and Dawon tested positive for COVID-19 in October of last year and went into treatment and self-quarantine.
The agency FNC Entertainment said, “It is definite that Hwiyoung and Chani’s actions were careless and deserving of criticism. They are reproachful of themselves for causing concern to fans and the public, and they are deeply self-reflecting and regretful. We also express deep apologies for being inattentive about managing our artists with no room for excuses. We will provide more thorough management and prepare measures, so a situation like this does not occur again.”
