The Korea Music Copyright Association (Jin Young Hong) has revealed facts and action plans for ‘China’s YouTube copyright theft,’ which they publicly debated through the media and YouTube channels.
An official of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) said on May 18th, “This is an issue in which the original K-POP song is damaged because the record producer of the Chinese translation song, which has no legitimate authority, first registered the Content ID on YouTube.”
The record companies registering remakes in the original video are Believe Music, EWway Music, and Enjoy Music. On the contrary, the original record producer (label) has not registered their content IDs, indicating that the royalties (album producers and performers) were distributed to the Chinese record companies.
An official from Korea Music Copyright Association said, “However, YouTube’s music usage fees will split into ‘copyright fees’ for record producer and performer and ‘copyright fees’ for the writing and composition. The copyright fees managed by the KOMCA have not been passed on to Chinese record companies and will be for future use.”
In addition, the Korea Music Copyright Association said, “However, correcting the wrong song name and singer name information in Chinese is limited to the association’s request. It is because it’s not the subject of registering the music and music information on YouTube.”
Nevertheless, they said, “We will strongly ask YouTube to take measures to prevent a recurrence because there is a possibility of continuous damage to the local music industry in the future.”
“We will continue to conduct additional investigations to prevent similar cases from occurring in other songs. We must eradicate it to remake works without any approval from the original author and even claim access to the original song.” The Korea Music Copyright Association clearly stated.
