YUJU released her first solo album after the K-pop group GFRIEND disbanded. YUJU said, “The years I spent with the members were the time that made me.”

“The members filled in what I was lacking at the time. But, now that I had to do it alone, I felt pressured. Still, it was fun to deal with emotions that I had not dealt with before. I had fun and no fear at the same time,” YUJU said.
YUJU, a former member of the K-pop group GFRIEND, released her first mini-album ‘Rec.’ on January 18. She took her first steps as a solo singer.
At a press conference held online on the afternoon of January 18, YUJU expressed her feelings about her solo debut, saying, “I feel like I have taken off my fear in revealing myself.”
YUJU has been the main vocalist for GFRIEND and has shown off her cool singing skills in hit songs such as ‘Rough,’ ‘Navillera,’ ‘Fingertip,’ ‘Love Whisper,’ and ‘Time For The Moon Night.’
In this solo mini-album, released about eight months after GFRIEND’s disbandment in May last year, she participated in writing and composing all songs. YUJU showed off her musical capabilities that have grown further.
The album contains a total of five songs, including the title song ‘Play,’ ‘Bad Blood,’ ‘Cold Winter,’ ‘The Killa,’ and ‘Blue Nostalgia.’
The title song ‘Play’ is a song that enhances completeness by singer-songwriter Chancellor, a colleague at Konnect Entertainment. Chancellor participated in writing and composing.
YUJU said, “REC. is an album that contains good tension that we can feel when all recordings turned on. ‘Play’ is an attractive song in which cheerful accompaniment and sad lyrics harmonize with each other.
“The ‘killing point’ of this song is relentless YUJU. ‘Play’ has a playful and pleasant feeling, but it doesn’t have the opposite meaning of being light and vain in relationships with people. I tried to harmonize these points properly,” she explained.
YUJU has attempted a ‘mix and match’ that encompasses different elements in the song ‘Play’ and music video.
In fact, the gayageum (traditional Korean instrument) sound harmonizes strangely with the pop sounds in the song.
In addition, during the album production process, several composers and producers gathered together to participate, putting their heads together to get ideas.
She added, “When I was working on a song, if I were to compare it to a thing, I wanted to work on a song that felt like a limited edition. While I was doing it, the sound of a gayageum came to mind. I wanted to make a new song.”
YUJU made her solo debut for the first time among the K-pop group GFRIEND members with this album. Among the members, Eunha, SinB, and Umji are set to make their re-debut as a new girl group next month.
When YUJU talked about GFRIEND, she said, “The years I spent with the members were the time that made me. They are so precious, and it is like forever that never disappears. They are cheering on me well.”
“When I released the teaser for this, Sowon said that it’s ‘the teaser she watched the most in her life,'” YUJU said.
“I want to make an album that continues to capture me like this album. Wouldn’t it be nice to record little by little and steadily and express the moment you want to share with music?” YUJU added.
