As Yiren Wang, a member of the K-pop group Everglow, suddenly returns to China, the public pays attention to its reasons.
Yuehua Entertainment announced on the official fan cafe of Everglow on January 9, “Yiren will be traveling to China for academic reasons from mid-January to the end of February. She will be taking a short break with her family, whom she has not seen due to COVID-19.”
As a result, “During that period, Everglow will be promoting as a five-member K-pop group when promoting in Korea. Also, the group will proceed with their scheduled activities without any setbacks.”
Netizens are suddenly pouring out their curiosity on Yiren’s decision to go to China. Mainly, fans are more interested in the reasons why, as Yiren Wang recently received criticisms for not bowing down as they greeted fans on New Year’s day, saying it’s a Chines tradition. So, it created a feud between Korean and Chinese netizens.
Earlier, on January 2, Everglow had a big celebration for the New Year at a fan signing session. Still, the fact that Yiren stood alone with her hands together and greeted fans was controversial. This is known as a Chinese-style greeting with the meaning of ‘get rich.’
On this occasion, Chinese netizens praised Yiren as a good example of Chinese entertainers’ entry into Korea, saying, “Chinese people don’t bow big.”
However, Korean netizens responded, “We don’t understand Yiren, who is active in Korea, does not accept Korean culture, and sticks only to Chinese culture.”
Since then, Chinese media reported this and further encouraged the conflict. A Chinese public media observer said that there were extreme claims among Korean netizens to expel Chinese idols.
The following is Yuehua Entertainment’s official statement:
