National Hangeul Museum and Bupyeong History Museum exhibits ‘Korean Pop Lyrics: Melodies Of Life.’
This exhibit features all-time popular song lyrics, from past pop singers to BTS.

National Hangeul Museum and the Bupyeong Museum of History announced on July 1st that they would conduct a special exhibition, ‘Korean Pop Lyrics: Melodies Of Life,’ from July 6th to December 31st.
This exhibition is a touring exhibition held at the National Hangeul Museum in the first half of last year. It is the third time after the Busan Museum in the second half of last year. Also, the National Library of Sejong held it in the first half of this year.
This exhibition sheds light on popular song lyrics, not pop songs or singers. This aims to show the footprints of popular song lyrics that carried our lives. Also, it aims to show the beauty of Korean words and the writings contained in them.
The exhibition will start from ‘Nakhwa Yusu’ in 1929, known as Korea’s first creative pop song, to the activities of ‘BTS,’ a group that is currently loved all over the world. Visitors can see the changes and characteristics of lyrics that have been with the public for 100 years.
It has 5 chapters: Chapter 1 ‘Lyrics of this Rubella World’ (1920s~1945), Chapter 2 ‘Lyrics Healing the Wounds of War’ (1945~1950s), Chapter 3 ‘Lyrics of Light and Shadow of Growth’ (1960) ~1980s), Chapter 4 ‘Open World, Open Lyrics’ (1990s to present), and Part 5 ‘Lyrics of Life, Life of Lyrics.’ You can see and listen to popular lyrics during that times.
Particularly, ‘The Journey of Love Written by Lyrics’ exhibits the works created by mixing the lyrics of 19 songs with the theme of love. Media art decorates the end of the exhibition by using melody and lighting. They prepared a space where you can synesthetically appreciate the lyrics.
