“We don’t need permission to dance” – BTS
Easy-to-follow choreography, with sign language performance. It is also a popular dance-pop song that connects with ‘Butter.’ Ed Sheeran participated in the song work.

The group BTS has returned with a dance anthem that speaks of ‘hope’ in the pandemic era.
BTS released the new song ‘Permission to Dance’ and its music video at 1 pm on July 9th.
It is another English song that connects ‘Dynamite’ released last year and ‘Butter,’ released in May of this year. ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’ were recorded together on the real CD of ‘Butter’ released on the same day.
Particularly, ‘Permission to Dance’ attracts attention early in that it worked in partnership with world-famous singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.
Ed Sheeran’s collaboration with BTS is the second after ‘Make It Right’ in 2019.
British producers Steve Mac and Johnny McDaid, who co-created Ed Sheeran’s mega-hit ‘The Shape of You,’ also joined the songwriting. Jenna Andrews, who also participated in the ‘Butter’ project, contributed to this.
‘Permission to Dance’ has a piano melody and string sound. It is a light and popular style of dance-pop like the group’s previous works ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Butter.’
The lyrics, “We don’t need permission to dance,” contain a message to listen to the ‘rhythm of the heart.’
Lyrics like “The wait is over / The time is now, so let’s do it right” seem to depict hope for the ‘day when we can all dance freely together’ after the pandemic is over.

The music video radiates this message more directly. Earlier, in the teaser video, Suga read an English newspaper with phrases such as ‘2022 is the beginning of a new era, goodbye Covid-19.’
BTS members fly purple (BTS symbol color) balloons. It contains ‘hope’ to people in a pandemic situation. Those who find balloons in their daily life dance freely and enjoy the moment.
The music video shows people of different races and ages dancing and wearing masks at bus stops, company offices, and playgrounds. Reports said that they filmed it in Seoul and Los Angeles, USA.
It highlights BTS’s position as a pop group that can make the general public ‘dance.’
The members in costumes with cowboy motifs dance happily against the backdrop of a space reminiscent of the western desert of the US. If the previous BTS patent was a sophisticated ‘sword group dance,’ the new song performance follows movements that anyone can easily follow.
Like ‘Butter,’ a homage to popular pop songs such as Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal,’ in the intro of ‘Permission to Dance,’ the lyrics “When it all seems that it’s wrong / Just sing along to Elton John” appears.
The positive mood in the second half, where people take off their masks and the seven members dance with the crowd, gives bright expressions.
Particularly, the performance that expresses the meaning of ‘happy,’ ‘dance,’ and ‘peace’ using international sign language attracts attention.

Big Hit Music, the management company, explained, “The music video is made in 4K. So, the bright colors and free-spirited atmosphere stand out more.”
Previously, BTS proved the power of a strong fandom. They ranked first on the US Billboard’s main singles chart ‘Hot 100’ for 6 consecutive weeks with ‘Butter.’
So, interest is focussing on the performance of this new song, ‘Permission to Dance.’
BTS unveils their new song performance for the first time on the Naver Now special show ‘A Butterful Getaway with BTS’ at 9 pm on July 9th. In addition to the new song, they will perform two other songs followed by a talk show.
