
’21st Century Pop Icon’ BTS succeeded in passing the baton, taking first place on the US Billboard’s main singles chart ‘Hot 100’ with their new song ‘Permission to Dance’ following ‘Butter.’
US Billboard announced on July 19th that ‘Permission to Dance,’ released on July 9th, topped the ‘Hot 100’ chart. ‘Permission to Dance’ went straight to No. 1 in the first week of entry. It inherited the baton of the digital single ‘Butter,’ which took the ‘Hot 100’ top spot for 7 weeks. It topped the ‘Hot 100’ from June 5 to July 17. ‘Butter’ ranked 7th on the ‘Hot 100.’
So, BTS put their name on the Top 10 of the ‘Hot 100’ chart with two songs.
Billboard focused heavily on the news of BTS ‘Permission to Dance’ and ‘Hot 100’ through an article posted on their official website.
Citing MRC data, Billboard said, “‘Permission to Dance’ recorded 15.9 million streaming and 140,000 downloads in the US weekly count until July 15. Also, the number of listeners to the radio shows was 1.1 million.
With the digital single ‘Dynamite’ released in August last year, BTS became the first Korean singer to top Billboard’s ‘Hot 100.’
They are writing a new record in the history of popular music. For BTS to top the ‘Hot 100’ chart with 5 songs in 10 months and 2 weeks is the shortest. It is since Michael Jackson, who topped ‘Hot 100’ with 5 songs for 9 months and 2 weeks. It happens from the year 1987 to 1988. Also, it is the first time since Drake in July 2018 that BTS reached first place on the ‘Hot 100.’
BTS took first place on the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ chart. It starts with ‘Dynamite’ (3 times), ‘Savage Love’ remix (1 time), the title song ‘Life Goes On’ from the ‘BE’ album (1 time), ‘Butter’ (7 times), and ‘Permission to Dance’ (1 time). So, BTS ranked first on the Billboard chart 13 times in total.

It entered the chart on Billboard’s ‘Digital Song Sales’ and went straight to no. 1.
