China’s Social Network Service (SNS) Weibo has been cracking down on ‘irrational idol support culture.’ They deleted posts from many domestic idol group fan accounts, including BTS.
Weibo announced through a notice on May 22nd that they deleted 10 posts from ‘Accounts supporting idols irrationally.’
This will prevent them from writing related posts for 30 days. Eight of these accounts posted several posts related to BTS. The post was about posting scenes of BTS’ performances or activities and sharing links to popular votes. The other two were accounts with many posts related to group EXO.
Weibo did not specifically reveal how the accounts committed ‘irrational support.’
Weibo said, “We are fulfilling our responsibilities to create a healthy and clean fan club ecology following the request of the China National Cyber Information Office. We are conducting ‘Weibo Fan Club Ecological Health Special Actions.’ They also said that they focus on investigations about irrational support or fundraising in violation of regulations, fake news on malicious marketing accounts, and anti-fans attacking celebrities.
As of now, Weibo announced that they organized 2307 posts related to mutual slander. Also, they sanctioned 12 malicious marketing accounts and 80 anti-fan accounts.
