Jennie of the group ‘BLACKPINK’ has achieved another record for the first time as a Korean solo artist on Spotify, the world’s largest music platform.
According to YG Entertainment, on July 1st, Jennie’s solo song ‘SOLO’ surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify.
This is the first time that a song by a Korean solo artist has surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify. BLACKPINK Jennie’s ‘SOLO’ surpassed Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ on this platform last October. ‘SOLO’ became the largest streaming song for a Korean solo artist.
Jennie released ‘SOLO’ in November 2018 as the first runner of BLACKPINK’s solo project. She expressed her confident aspect of not being bound by sadness with straightforward and honest lyrics, which received positive responses.
At the time of its release, it topped the real-time, daily, and weekly charts of major domestic music sites. Also, the song ranked No. 1 on iTunes in 40 regions, No. 1 on iTunes Worldwide Song Chart for the first time as a Korean female solo artist, and Top 10 on iTunes in the US.
Recently, BLACKPINK announced the start of the ‘4+1 Project’ consisting of a total of 5 events to celebrate their 5th debut anniversary in August. They will release ‘BLACKPINK: The Movie’ globally in more than 100 countries worldwide.
